In desperation, a remote controlled camera is sent up the main sewer pipe to see if the connection point exists. Poss and the plumber watch the TV screen (under the spray jacket). There is no side branch! Instead the branch goes vertical then sideways (and exactly 1 chain and 7 feet from the manhole, as stated in the notebook).
